Amanda Brugel

(February 27th of 2010 to Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a sleepy community on this part of the island of Montreal that is known as the West Island. The West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a large part that stretches from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel grew up on this island, and it is commonly called her birthplace. But she only resided there for a very short duration. Brugel grew in Courtice close to Oshawa. She had a dream to dance but an increase in her height meant that she literally outgrew her dance partner. In an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. As I grew older than my male companions, I quit. Brugel was one of many former dancers who turned into acting. Her high school teacher school encouraged her in the right direction. Her teacher invited her to take part in an audition in a school production. She was the teacher who suggested that she pursue a part the school's annual show. After receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Brugel's career spans over twenty years, and she's been in over 60 productions including big screen productions and smaller ones. Her most recognizable role was as Rita (pictured below) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in the season 1 and was only seen occasionally.
